Camera Bags — Choosing the Right Carry

The bag you choose depends on how you work. A studio photographer needs a rolling case. A wildlife photographer needs a backpack with rain cover and lens-access on the go. A street photographer needs a small shoulder bag that looks like anything but a camera bag. We stock across all three use cases.

Tripods and Support

A good tripod outlasts several camera generations. The key decision is material (aluminium vs carbon fibre) and head type (ball head vs pan-tilt). For video, a fluid head is essential; for stills, a quality ball head is faster and more flexible.

Tripods and Support
CategoryUse caseWhat to look for
Aluminium tripodGeneral stills, studioStable and affordable; heavier than carbon
Carbon fibre tripodTravel, wildlife, hikingSame stability at 30–40% less weight; costs more
Fluid headVideo, cinemaDrag-controlled smooth pan and tilt — essential for video
Ball headStills photographyQuick repositioning, locks firm — best for stills
Gorillapod / flexiblePhone and small mirrorlessWraps around surfaces; not a tripod substitute for serious work
MonopodSports, events, wildlifeFast, mobile support — not freestanding

For Canon R-series bodies, match the tripod's rated load to your heaviest body + lens combination with a 30% safety margin. WhatsApp us for a recommendation.

Filters

We stock NiSi and Hoya filters — both carry a strong reputation for optical quality. A cheap filter in front of an expensive L-series lens introduces colour cast, flare, and softness that defeats the purpose of the lens. Use genuine branded filters.

Filters
Filter typeWhat it doesWhen you need it
UV / ProtectiveProtects the front element; minimal optical effectAll the time, on every lens, in the field
CPL (Circular Polariser)Cuts reflections, deepens sky blue, saturates coloursLandscape, water, architecture
ND (Neutral Density)Reduces light entering the lens without colour shiftVideo (long shutter), waterfalls, bright-light portraits at wide aperture
Variable NDAdjustable ND in one filterVideo — fast-changing light conditions
GND (Graduated ND)Half-darkens the frame — sky vs foregroundLandscape — balancing bright sky against darker ground

Filter thread size is marked on the lens barrel or front ring (e.g. ø77mm). A 77mm filter fits any lens with a 77mm thread. We stock common sizes in NiSi and Hoya — WhatsApp us to confirm stock for your lens.

Memory Cards

We stock Angelbird CFexpress Type B and SD cards — see our dedicated page for the full range and compatibility guide.

Card choice matters more than most photographers realise — especially for burst shooting and 4K/8K video. Using a slow card with a fast camera throttles the burst buffer and causes dropped frames in video.

Memory Cards
Card typeCameras it fitsMinimum speed for bursting
CFexpress Type BEOS R1, R5 Mark II, R6 Mark III, R6V, R31700 MB/s for 8K RAW; 400 MB/s for 4K and RAW stills burst
SD UHS-II (V90)EOS R7, R8, R50, R50 V, RP, R10 (and the SD slot of dual-slot bodies)90 MB/s write — V90 rating ensures sustained speed
SD UHS-I (V30)EOS R100 (UHS-I slot)30 MB/s — do not use for fast burst or 4K video

We stock Angelbird CFexpress Type B cards and selected SD cards in common capacities. WhatsApp for current stock and pricing.

Straps and Cleaning

  • Neck straps: The standard Canon strap works but puts long-lens weight directly on your neck. Third-party padded straps and harness-style dual-strap systems distribute the load across your shoulders — meaningful over a full day of shooting.
  • Peak Design clips and anchors: The anchor system lets you disconnect the strap instantly and attach to any bag's clip point. We stock these.
  • Sensor cleaning kits: Swabs sized for APS-C and full-frame sensors, with Eclipse solution. If you are not comfortable cleaning your own sensor, Canon's service centres offer this as a paid service.
  • Lens cleaning: Rocket blower (always first), microfibre cloths, and lens cleaning solution. Never wipe a lens without blowing dust off first — the dust scratches the coating.

Common Questions

The R6 Mark III body is 138×98×88mm and weighs 699g. With two RF lenses (say, the 24–70 F2.8L and the 85mm F1.4L), you are looking at a total kit weight of around 2.5kg. A mid-size camera backpack (20–25L) or a shoulder bag rated for a mirrorless body with 2–3 lenses will fit comfortably. WhatsApp us with your exact lens list and we can suggest a specific bag.

A UV filter on a field lens (one that goes outdoors, near water, or in dust) makes sense — the filter is cheaper to replace than the front element. On a studio or indoor-only lens, it is less critical. Use a branded filter (NiSi, Hoya) — a cheap filter degrades image quality enough to be noticeable on L-series glass.

The R5 Mark II plus the RF 100–500mm weighs approximately 2.2kg. You need a tripod rated for at least 5kg to have a safe margin. A carbon fibre tripod in the Manfrotto or Gitzo range with a ball head rated for 8–10kg is the right bracket. For wildlife and outdoor use, carbon fibre pays for itself in reduced fatigue. WhatsApp us for current stock.

The R5 Mark II has one CFexpress Type B slot and one SD UHS-II slot. For 8K RAW recording, use CFexpress Type B rated at 1700 MB/s write or above — Angelbird AV PRO CFe Type B is a reliable choice. For stills and 4K, a V90-rated SD in slot 2 works as backup or overflow. We stock both.

Yes — ND filters are brand-agnostic as long as the thread diameter matches. Check the lens barrel or front ring for the thread size (e.g. ø77mm). Quality matters: NiSi and Hoya use optical glass that does not introduce colour cast or reduce sharpness. Cheap ND filters add a colour shift (usually green/magenta) that requires correction in post.
